'Extraordinary percussionist'... —The Daily Telegraph, London

Larry Crockett is an international recording, touring musician and composer who has worked with the biggest names in the music industry. He has played in famous venues—from respected jazz clubs such as the Blue Note, the Cotton Club, the legendary Apollo Theater, Madison Square Garden (New York), the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to stadiums. In Europe he has been at the Royal Albert Hall and Wembley Arena in London, the Palais des Congrès and Olympia in Paris, as well as at prestigious festivals...Asia as well.

Larry Crockett, known as "Mr. Sticks," received his BA degree in music from Rutgers University. His primary teachers were the late drumming technique specialist Charlie Tappan and the renowned master drummer, bandleader and educator Michael Carvin, who was jazz drummer with jazz legends Dizzy Gillespie and Freddie Hubbard. Larry's first book, Drum Set Rudiments, was endorsed by many of the world's leading drummers, including Phil Collins, Carmine Appicce, Dennis Chambers and others.

Larry has been a student of the drums since the days when his dad's band practiced in the family home in Matawan, NJ. His father bought him a guitar, but he never played it. It was the drummer in his dad's band, Arnold Newell, who became his role model. "As far back as I can remember, I’d beat on stuff in the house," he recounts.

Highly in demand as a performer in the competitive New York tri-state area, Larry performs with artists in a range of musical situations. Besides live concerts, he appears on television shows, in recordings and videos as well as on-screen. He travels the world performing with the who's who in the music industry in virtually every genre: Eric Bibb, Liz McComb, Elton John, the Four Tops, Martha Reeves, Japan super star, Dakota Staton, Korean pop diva Shin Hyo Bum, Sonny Landreth, Popa Chubby, Billy Hector. Larry is also the bandleader of the award-winning group "Crock Pott," that won the $10,000 first prize in the Hennessey "Best of Detroit" 1993 jazz competition.

A sought-after Sabian clinician, Larry often shares his valuable musical knowledge and life experiences in seminars throughout the world. In a perpetual drive to help drummers attain success in drumming Larry has written these books: The Left Hand and 101 Keys to Success in Music and in Life and The Art of Practicing. His latest CD, My Wish, joins Be Somebody in his discography.

Larry conducts clinics and teaches privately as well as continues to perform around the globe. He is particularly involved in educating and motiving aspiring young musicians. He visits schools to speak about the history of the drum in respect to culture, drumming and different instruments. An ongoing project is funding and awarding a scholarship at a NJ high school (details).

About drumming, he says: "You learn to groove, play a supporting role, lay a foundation for the other players. It takes many years to accept that responsibility. It's a role not many peoples' egos will let them assume, but it is a drummer's role."
